Used when counting nouns or when specifying a specific instance of a noun.

There are also classifiers for people, for bound items such as books and magazines, for cups/glasses, etc.

The classifier 个 is a general one that can be used for any of these.

Usages of gè

这zhè　个gè　人rén　是shì　学生xuéshēng。zhè gè rén shì xuéshēng.

This person is a student.

这zhè　个gè　人rén　不bú　是shì　老师lǎoshī。zhè gè rén bú shì lǎoshī.

This person is not a teacher.

这zhè　个gè　老师lǎoshī　在zài　家jiā。zhè gè lǎoshī zài jiā.

This teacher is at home.
