Questions & Answers about El hecho de que los datos reflejen eso es interesante.
Why is reflejen in the subjunctive if el hecho literally means a true fact?
Even though el hecho de que (the fact that) introduces a reality, the main part of the sentence evaluates it by saying it es interesante. Whenever you express an opinion, emotion, or value judgment about a fact, Spanish requires the subjunctive in the noun clause.
How would the sentence change if I just stated the fact without evaluating it?
If you only want to declare the information without reacting to it, you would drop the preposition de and use the indicative mood. It becomes El hecho es que los datos reflejan eso (The fact is that the data reflect that).
Why use the neuter eso instead of ese or esa?
In English we often say 'the data is', so why are we treating los datos as plural?
