Questions & Answers about آنها اخطار گرفتند، پس مجبور هستند که شیوهی خود را تغییر دهند.
Why is the verb تغییر دهند in the subjunctive form?
The phrase مجبور هستند که (they are obliged to) expresses an obligation. In Farsi, whenever you use a phrase expressing necessity, obligation, or desire, the action that follows must be in the present subjunctive form.
I normally see the subjunctive with the prefix بـ (be-). Why is it missing from تغییر دهند?
The verb for to change is تغییر دادن, which is a compound verb. With compound verbs, Farsi speakers often drop the subjunctive بـ prefix from the light verb (دهند instead of بدهند), especially in writing or slightly formal speech. Both are perfectly correct!
Why does the sentence use خود (self) instead of آنها (their) for their method?
When the owner of the object is the same as the subject of the sentence, Farsi prefers using the reflexive pronoun خود. You could say شیوهی آنها, but شیوهی خود sounds much more natural and emphasizes that it is their own method.
Why is the verb گرفتند (they took) used for they received?
The verb گرفتن primarily means to take, but it doubles as the standard verb for receiving things. Whether it is a physical package, a grade, or an abstract concept like a warning (اخطار), you take it in Farsi.
