Questions & Answers about Tijdens het inplannen van het spreekuur zien we vaak fouten.
How does this sentence use the nominal style, and what full clause does it replace?
The phrase Tijdens het inplannen van het spreekuur replaces a full temporal clause like Terwijl we het spreekuur inplannen (While we schedule the consultation hour). In nominal style, we use a preposition like Tijdens, turn the verb into a noun with het inplannen, and use van to connect it to its original object, het spreekuur.
Inplannen is a separable verb. Do separable verbs stay together when used as a noun?
Yes. When you turn a separable verb into a noun by using the infinitive with het, the prefix and the main verb remain attached as a single word. You do not split them in this nominalized form.
Why does the main clause use inversion (zien we instead of we zien)?
This is the V2 (verb second) rule. Even though it is very long, the entire phrase Tijdens het inplannen van het spreekuur acts as a single time expression occupying the first position in the sentence. The finite verb zien must take the second position, pushing the subject we after it.
Could I use the preposition Bij instead of Tijdens in this construction?
