Questions & Answers about We zijn klaar en we hebben nu tijd.
Why do we use hebben here instead of heb or heeft?
Why is the word order nu tijd instead of tijd nu?
In English, we usually put adverbs of time like 'now' at the very end of the sentence. In Dutch, time words like nu prefer to go early in the sentence, usually right after the verb and before the object (tijd). That is why we hebben nu tijd sounds much more natural in Dutch.
Does klaar mean 'ready' or 'finished'?
It can actually mean both! Depending on the situation, We zijn klaar can mean 'We are ready' (prepared to do something) or 'We are finished' (done with a task). The context of the conversation will usually tell you which one is meant.
Why doesn't the word order change in the second half of the sentence after en?
