Questions & Answers about İşçi avans istedi diye muhasebe müdürü çok kızmış olsa gerek.
How does the phrase 'kızmış olsa gerek' work to mean 'must have gotten angry'?
The structure -sA gerek is used to make strong logical deductions. To apply this to a past event, you combine the evidential past tense (-mIş) with olsa (the conditional form of olmak) and gerek. Literally meaning 'it is necessary that he supposedly got angry', it translates naturally to 'must have gotten angry'.
Could I use the definite past tense and say 'kızdı olsa gerek'?
No, you must use the evidential past (-mIş). Because you are making a logical deduction about a past event rather than stating a hard fact you witnessed, the -mIş tense is grammatically required before olsa gerek.
Why is 'diye' used here, and how is it different from 'çünkü'?
While çünkü means 'because' and introduces a new independent clause (often at the end of a sentence), diye is used right after a phrase to link a reason directly to a reaction. İşçi avans istedi diye translates to 'on the grounds that the worker asked for an advance', making it the specific trigger for the manager's anger.
Why does the sentence start with the worker's action rather than the manager?
In standard Turkish word order, the reason or cause (İşçi avans istedi diye) acts as an adverbial phrase modifying the main event. It naturally comes before the main subject (muhasebe müdürü) and the final verb, setting up the context before delivering the result.
