In English, you can place a noun right before another noun to describe it (like "silk collection"). Spanish doesn't do this. To say what something is made of, you almost always use de (of). So, "the silk collection" becomes la colección de seda (literally "the collection of silk").

Since this lesson is about exclamations, how would I say "What a beautiful silk collection!"?

You would use the ¡Qué + noun + tan/más + adjective! structure. It becomes ¡Qué colección de seda tan hermosa! (or más hermosa). Notice how the entire noun phrase (colección de seda) stays together and goes directly between Qué and tan.

I often get confused about when to put a preposition like "a" or "de" after a verb. Why is it just Quiero ver?

While many Spanish verbs require a preposition before a following infinitive (like voy a ver or trato de ver), querer (to want) is one of the verbs that connects directly to the next verb. You simply say quiero ver with nothing in between.
