Why do we use è (from essere) instead of ha (from avere) with cambiato here?
Cambiare (to change) can take either helping verb. You use avere when the subject changes something else (a direct object), like Ho cambiato il metodo (I changed the method). You use essere when the subject itself undergoes the change, as we see here: the method changed.
Because we used essere, does cambiato have to agree with the subject?
