Questions & Answers about شناخت خود خیلی مهم است؛ تو باید خودت را بشناسی.
Why does the first خود have no ending, while the second one is خودت?
The first خود is used in an abstract, general sense meaning 'oneself', so it doesn't take a personal ending. The second one refers specifically to the subject 'you' (تو), so we add the second-person singular possessive ending ـت to make it 'yourself'.
Why do we need the particle را after خودت?
Because خودت (yourself) is the direct object of the verb. It is the specific entity receiving the action of 'knowing'. Since reflexive pronouns refer to specific people, they are always definite and must be followed by the direct object marker را when used as objects.
Both halves of the sentence use a form of 'knowing'. How do شناخت and بشناسی relate to each other?
They both come from the verb شناختن (to know or recognize). In the first clause, شناخت is used as a noun meaning 'understanding' or 'knowing'. In the second clause, بشناسی is the conjugated present subjunctive verb for 'you know'.
Why does the verb بشناسی start with بـ instead of the usual میـ?
It follows the word باید (must). In Farsi, verbs following obligation words like 'must' go into the subjunctive mood, which represents a requirement or idea rather than a stated fact. To form this, the regular present prefix میـ is replaced by بـ.
