In English, we usually shift the tense back in reported speech ("heard that the employee was retiring"). Farsi does not do this! After the connector که (that), Farsi preserves the exact tense the original speaker used. The original situation is "the employee is retiring" (present tense), so we keep the present tense می‌شود here, even though the main verb شنید (heard) is in the past.

How does the verb بازنشسته می‌شود work?

This is a compound verb made of the adjective بازنشسته (retired) and the verb شدن (to become). Literally, it translates to "becomes retired." In Farsi, we often use شدن to express a change of state. Here it is conjugated in the present tense to match the employee's action.

Does the word سمت mean direction or position here?
