Questions & Answers about De kok gebruikt geen lactose en hij gebruikt dit veganistische ingrediënt ook niet.
Why is ook niet placed at the very end of the sentence?
In Dutch, ook niet (meaning not either) usually comes after a specific direct object. Because dit veganistische ingrediënt is specific (it uses dit, meaning this), it must come before ook niet. If the object were non-specific, we would use ook geen instead.
Why does the first clause use geen to say 'no lactose', but the second clause uses niet?
We use geen to negate an unspecified noun, like lactose in general. In the second half, the chef isn't avoiding all vegan ingredients, just this specific one. Because dit veganistische ingrediënt is a specific noun, we negate the sentence with niet (or in this case, ook niet).
Why is there an -e at the end of veganistische?
Ingrediënt is a het word (het ingrediënt). When you put a demonstrative word like dit (this) or dat (that) in front of a het word, the adjective describing it gets an -e added to the end.
After en (and), why doesn't the verb gebruikt move to the end of the sentence?
