Questions & Answers about Bilgilerimi doğrulamak için aradılar sandım, meğer her şey sahteymiş.
Why is sahte followed by -miş instead of -ydi?
The word meğer means "it turns out" or "apparently." It is used when you discover something that goes against what you previously thought. Because it expresses a sudden realization or discovery, it is almost always paired with the -miş suffix (the evidential past tense) rather than the definite past -di. You just found out it was fake!
How does sandım work here? There is no word for "that" like in "I thought that they called".
In Turkish, you can simply take a complete sentence like aradılar (they called) and put sandım (I thought / I assumed) right after it. While you could use ki and flip the order (sandım ki aradılar), putting the conjugated verb directly before sandım is the most natural and common way to express this.
What is the root of the word doğrulamak?
It comes from the adjective doğru, which means "true" or "correct." The suffix -la is frequently used to turn nouns or adjectives into verbs. So, doğrula- means "to make true" or "to verify," and -mak makes it the infinitive.
In English "information" is uncountable. Why is it pluralized as bilgilerimi here?
