Questions & Answers about Estoy leyendo un libro muy interesante.
Why does leyendo have a "y" instead of an "i"?
The verb for "to read" is leer. Normally, to make an -er verb into an "-ing" word (a gerund), you take off the -er and add -iendo. But that would make leiendo, which has an "i" trapped between two vowels. In Spanish, an unaccented "i" between two vowels changes to a "y" to make it easier to read and pronounce. So, it becomes leyendo.
Could I just say Leo un libro muy interesante instead of using estoy leyendo?
Why isn't there a word for "I" at the beginning of the sentence?
In Spanish, the verb itself usually tells you who is doing the action. Because estoy specifically means "I am," you don't need to include the pronoun yo ("I"). You can simply start the sentence with Estoy leyendo.
Why is it libro muy interesante instead of muy interesante libro like in English?
