Questions & Answers about La tua famiglia è di Roma?
Why do we need La before tua?
In Italian, possessive adjectives usually require a definite article (like il or la) in front of them. You literally say 'the your family' (la tua famiglia). There is a special rule where you drop the article for singular family members (like mio padre for 'my father'), but the word famiglia itself does not count as a specific family member, so it keeps the article!
Why is it La tua and not Il tuo?
A family has multiple people in it. Why do we use the singular verb è instead of the plural sono?
Just like in American English, the word famiglia (family) is a collective noun. Even though a family has multiple people, the word itself is singular (one family). Therefore, it takes the third-person singular verb è (is).
Why is di used for 'from' here? Shouldn't it be da?
