Why is there an extra -e at the end of remplacée?
This is because of the word que (that), which is the direct object of the verb and refers back to la tablette. In the passé composé, when a direct object comes before the verb, the past participle has to agree with it. Since la tablette is feminine, we add an -e to remplacé to make it remplacée.
Both verbs talk about the tablet. So why doesn't vu also get an extra -e?
The rule is that the direct object must come before the verb for this agreement to happen. For the first verb (ai vu), the object (la tablette) comes after it. Therefore, vu stays in its default form and does not get an extra -e.
Why is jamais placed between ai and vu?
In the passé composé, short negative words like jamais (never), pas (not), and rien (nothing) are placed around the helper verb (ai). So the structure is ne + helper verb + jamais + past participle.
Does adding the -e to remplacée change how it is pronounced?
No, it sounds exactly the same as remplacé. The extra -e is only noticeable in writing!
