Why is it au here instead of just à?
Au is a mandatory contraction of the preposition à (to) and the masculine singular word le (the). Because centre commercial (mall) is masculine, you cannot say à le; they must combine to make au.
Why do we use eux for "them" instead of ils?
Ils is a subject pronoun used when "they" are doing the action. After a preposition like avec (with), you must use a stressed pronoun instead. For a masculine or mixed group, the stressed pronoun for "them" is eux.
How does vas mean "are going"? Is it a regular verb?
Vas comes from the highly irregular verb aller (to go). In French, the present tense covers both "you go" and "you are going". So, tu vas translates perfectly to "you are going".
