Questions & Answers about ممکن است هوا تغییر کند و در جایی مهآلود فرود بیاییم.
Why are both verbs (تغییر کند and فرود بیاییم) in the subjunctive form?
They are both triggered by the impersonal phrase ممکن است (it is possible) at the beginning of the sentence. Because the sentence describes a possibility rather than a fact, every verb in the dependent clause connected by و (and) takes the present subjunctive form.
The English translation says 'that', but I don't see که after ممکن است. Is it missing?
In Farsi, the conjunction که (that) is often left out after impersonal expressions of probability like ممکن است or احتمال دارد. You could easily add it and say ممکن است که هوا... but dropping it is very common and sounds completely natural.
How do we form the subjunctive verb فرود بیاییم?
It comes from the compound verb فرود آمدن (to land or descend). We keep the noun part فرود as it is. For the verb part آمدن (to come), we add the subjunctive prefix بـ to the present stem آیـ and add the 'we' ending ـیم. The prefix بـ combined with the vowel آ creates the sound بیا, resulting in بیاییم.
What is the grammatical role of the ی at the end of جایی?
This is the indefinite ی. When added to جا (place), it changes the meaning to 'a place' or 'somewhere'. Because جا ends in a long vowel, it gets an extra consonant sound to bridge the gap, making it جایی.
How is the adjective مهآلود built?
It combines مه (fog) with the suffix آلود (covered with or tainted by). You will see this suffix attached to other environmental words to describe conditions, such as غبارآلود (dusty) or دودآلود (smoky).
