Questions & Answers about من از اپراتور پشتیبانی پرسیدم که آیا میتواند به من کمک کند.
Why do we use که آیا for 'if' in this sentence?
In Farsi, reported yes/no questions use the structure پرسیدن (to ask) followed by که (that) and the question particle آیا (whether). It literally translates to 'I asked that whether...'.
The English translation says 'if he could help me', but میتواند is present tense ('can'). Why?
English shifts tenses backward in reported speech ('can' becomes 'could'), but Farsi keeps the exact tense of the original spoken question. Since the original question was 'Can you help me?', the reported version keeps the present tense verb میتواند.
Why is there an از before the support operator?
The verb پرسیدن (to ask) requires the preposition از (from) to indicate the person you are asking. In Farsi, you literally ask a question 'from' someone.
Why does کمک کردن (to help) become کمک کند (subjunctive) at the end of the sentence?
This is because it follows the modal verb میتواند (he/she can). Just like we saw in earlier lessons, the main action verb in a 'can do something' structure must always take the subjunctive mood.
Why does the sentence use به من (to me) instead of just the object pronoun من?
The compound verb کمک کردن (to help) requires the preposition به (to). In Farsi, you don't directly help someone; you 'do help to' them.
