Why is there no extra linking word between cheghadr and shekar?
In Farsi, when you ask "how much" of an uncountable noun, cheghadr goes directly before the noun. Just like in English, you simply say cheghadr shekar without any connecting words like the ezafe (the short "e" sound that normally links nouns).
Why doesn't the question word cheghadr go at the very beginning of the sentence?
In English, we pull question words to the front ("How much sugar..."). But in Farsi, question words usually stay in the exact same spot where the answer will go. Since the answer would be "I should add [two spoons] of sugar," the question naturally becomes man bayad [cheghadr] shekar....
Why does the sentence end with ezafeh konam instead of ezafeh mikonam?
This is a quick reminder about the word bayad (should/must) earlier in the sentence. bayad requires the main verb to be in the subjunctive mood (used for suggestions, obligations, or wishes). For the compound verb ezafeh kardan (to add), we drop the usual mi- prefix, leaving us with ezafeh konam.
Why do we use the preposition be (to) here instead of dar (in) when mixing sugar into milk?
The compound verb ezafeh kardan (to add) specifically pairs with the preposition be when you are adding something to something else. Even if physically you are putting the sugar inside the milk, Farsi pairs this specific verb with be, exactly like how English uses "to" with the verb "add".
