ما فکر می‌کنیم و یک ایده پیدا می‌کنیم.

From Lesson 31:Compound verbs·Farsi

Questions & Answers about ما فکر می‌کنیم و یک ایده پیدا می‌کنیم.

Why do "we think" and "we find" each use two words (فکر می‌کنیم and پیدا می‌کنیم)?
These are compound verbs. In Farsi, new verbs are often made by combining a noun or adjective with a "light verb" like کردن (to do). فکر means "thought" and پیدا means "found" or "visible." So, we are literally saying "we do thought" and "we do found."
What does the می‌ prefix do in می‌کنیم?
The می‌ prefix shows that the verb is in the present indicative tense. It tells us the action is happening right now or is a general habit. Combined with the verb root, it turns the action into "we do" or "we are doing."
Since both halves of the sentence use می‌کنیم, could we just say it once at the very end?
No, you generally need to keep it in both places here. Because فکر کردن and پیدا کردن are two separate compound verbs joined by و (and), they each need their own fully conjugated verb part to be complete in this structure.
Why does the object یک ایده (an idea) come before پیدا می‌کنیم?
Farsi is a Subject-Object-Verb language, which means the verb always goes at the very end of its clause. Since پیدا می‌کنیم is the complete compound verb for the second half of the sentence, the object یک ایده must be placed right before it.
Is the word ایده related to the English word "idea"?
Yes! ایده is a loanword from French, which shares the exact same root and meaning as the English word "idea." It sounds very similar, making it an easy vocabulary word for English speakers to remember.
