Quedarse means "to stay" or "to remain." It's the reflexive counterpart to the non-reflexive quedar (which has a wide range of meanings: "to be located," "to fit," "to agree on a meeting," "to have left"). The reflexive quedarse is specifically about choosing to remain somewhere.

Quedarse has several core meanings beyond simple "to stay":
