Questions & Answers about Belge patron tarafından imzalanmadığı takdirde geçersiz olur.
How is imzalanmadığı takdirde formed to mean in the event that it is not signed?
This uses the formal conditional structure: verb + -dık / -dığı + possessive + takdirde. First, the verb imzalamak is made passive (imzalan-), then negative (-ma-). Next, the participle suffix -dık is added, which mutates to -dığ- before the 3rd person singular possessive suffix -ı. Finally, the word takdirde (in the event / case) completes the phrase.
Why does imzalanmadığı need a possessive suffix if there is no obvious owner?
In Turkish, -dık clauses function like noun phrases, and the subject of the clause acts as the owner. Here, the subject being acted upon is the document (belge). So imzalanmadığı takdirde literally translates to something like in the event of its not being signed. The -ı is the its pointing back to the document.
Why use tarafından instead of the ablative case (-dan / -den) for by the boss?
When expressing by someone as the doer of an action in a passive sentence, you must use the postposition tarafından (literally from the side of). If you used the ablative case and said patrondan, it would mean from the boss rather than expressing that the boss is the one performing the signing.
Why does the sentence end with the aorist tense instead of the future tense ?
