In the event that (-dığı takdirde)

Formal Conditions: "In the event that"

In formal Turkish—such as legal contracts, business agreements, and official rules—you will often see conditions expressed not with the standard -se / -sa (if), but with the phrase takdirde (in the event that / in case).

To create this formal conditional clause, we use the familiar verbal noun suffix -dık / -dik / -duk / -dük:

1. Start with the verb stem.
2. Add the -dık suffix (which usually undergoes consonant mutation to -dığ-, -diğ-, etc. because it is followed by a vowel).
3. Add a possessive suffix to indicate who is performing the action.
4. Follow it with the separate word takdirde.

For example, to say "in the event that you breach": ihlal et (breach) + -diğ + -iniz (your) + takdirde = ihlal ettiğiniz takdirde.

Negative Conditions

To state what happens in the event of a failure to act (e.g., "in the event that you do not..."), insert the negative suffix -ma / -me directly onto the verb stem, right before the -dık suffix.

Passive Verbs and Changing States

This structure is extremely flexible and behaves just like a regular clause. You can attach it to passive verbs (by adding the passive suffix before the negative and -dık suffixes) or use it to describe changes in a project's state.
