Why does the second part just say por otro instead of por otro lado?
You can leave out the word lado in the second half of this phrase because it is already understood from por un lado. This makes the sentence flow more naturally, exactly like saying "on the one hand... but on the other" in English.
Why is there an el before tráfico when the English translation just says "traffic"?
In Spanish, when you state an opinion about a general noun or talk about a concept as a whole, you must use the definite article (el, la, los, las). English drops the article for general things like "traffic," but Spanish requires el tráfico.
Why do we use me with gusta but not with odio?
The verb gustar works differently than most verbs. With me gusta manejar, the driving is the subject that is pleasing to you. But odiar (to hate) is a standard verb where you are the subject performing the action. You just conjugate it normally as odio (I hate) without using me.
