Questions & Answers about Con ese profesor, ustedes tendrían un promedio excelente.
Why is the verb tendrían instead of "tenerían"?
Tendrían is the conditional form of tener (to have). In the conditional tense, most verbs just add the ending to the full infinitive, but tener is one of the important irregulars. Its stem changes to tendr-, so "you (plural) would have" becomes ustedes tendrían.
What conditional ending is added to the stem for ustedes?
For ustedes (as well as ellos and ellas), the conditional ending is -ían. Notice that conditional endings are exactly the same as the ER/IR endings for the imperfect tense (the past tense used for ongoing actions in the past)! You just attach them to the infinitive or, in this case, the irregular stem tendr-.
Why do we use ese instead of eso for "that"?
Does promedio mean "average" in general, or specifically a grade point average?
