Questions & Answers about Тебе не нужно напрягаться, я всё сделаю сам.
Why is напрягаться in the imperfective aspect here?
This is the main rule for negative obligations! When you tell someone they don't need to do something using не нужно or не надо, you almost always follow it with an imperfective infinitive, even if you are talking about a single, one-time situation.
Why does the sentence start with Тебе (dative) instead of Ты (nominative)?
Words expressing impersonal states or needs, like нужно, надо, or можно, require the person experiencing the state to be in the dative case. The literal structure is closer to "To you it is not necessary".
What exactly does напрягаться mean, and why is there a -ся on the end?
Напрягаться means to tense up, exert oneself, or strain. The -ся ending makes it reflexive, showing that the action affects the subject themselves (straining yourself). Without it, напрягать would mean to strain or stress something else.
Since напрягаться is imperfective, why is сделаю perfective?
Сделаю (I will do/complete) is perfective because it describes a single, finished result in the future: I will get it all done. The special imperfective rule only applies directly to the verb following the negative obligation (не нужно), not to the entire sentence.
