Fazer (to do / to make) is an irregular verb. In the present tense, the eu (I) form drops the 'z' and takes a ç to become faço. Luckily, the other present tense forms of this verb are more predictable (such as fazes, faz, and fazem), so the eu form is the main one you need to memorize!

Does faço mean 'do' or 'make' here?

In Portuguese, the single verb fazer covers both English verbs 'to do' and 'to make'. Here, because it is paired with o trabalho (the work), it translates naturally to 'do'. You use the exact same word if you want to say you 'make' something physical, like a cake (faço um bolo).

Why does faço use a ç (c-cedilla) instead of its original 'z' or a regular 'c'?

The letter 'c' before an 'o' normally makes a hard 'k' sound in Portuguese, just like at the start of cuidado. To keep a soft 's' sound in faço, a cedilla (the little hook) is added under the 'c'. This is a mandatory spelling rule used whenever you need a soft 'c' sound before the vowels 'a', 'o', or 'u'.
