Why do we use para here instead of a?

In Portuguese, the word you use for "to" with the verb ir (to go) depends on how long you plan to stay. We use para when going somewhere to stay for a while, like your own home or a final destination. We use a for quick, short visits, like running to the shop.

Why is there no word for "the" before casa?

When you are talking about going to your own home, you just use casa without the word a (the) in front of it. You say para casa (home). If you were going to a specific house that isn't your own, you would include the "the" and say para a casa (to the house).

Does vou mean "I go" or "I am going"?
