Questions & Answers about Eu escrevi o texto e imprimi o documento.
Both verbs here end in -i. Do regular -er and -ir verbs share the same ending for "I" in the past tense?
Yes! For the simple past tense of the eu form, you drop the -er or -ir from the infinitive and add -i. So, escrever becomes escrevi, and imprimir becomes imprimi.
Why isn't there a second eu before imprimi?
In Portuguese, you don't need to repeat the subject pronoun. The first eu establishes who is acting, and the -i ending of imprimi already makes it perfectly clear that "I" am the one who printed.
How do I pronounce the verbs escrevi and imprimi? Where does the stress go?
The stress falls on the final -i for both words. You emphasize the last syllable: es-cre-VI and im-pri-MI. This strong ending is a key pronunciation feature of the "I" form in the simple past tense.
Could I drop the Eu at the very beginning of the sentence?
Absolutely. You can simply say Escrevi o texto e imprimi o documento. Because the verb endings tell us exactly who did the action, dropping the subject pronoun entirely is very common and sounds completely natural.
