Questions & Answers about Znaleźliśmy klimatyczny zakątek, o którym nikt nikomu nie mówił.
I know klimat means climate, so does klimatyczny just mean climatic here?
While klimatyczny can mean climatic in a scientific sense, in modern everyday Polish it is very commonly used to mean atmospheric, cozy, or having a great vibe. You will often hear it describing cafes, restaurants, or secluded spots like the zakątek in this sentence.
Why are there three negative words (nikt, nikomu, nie) in the second half of the sentence?
Polish requires multiple negation. When you use negative pronouns like nikt (nobody) and nikomu (to nobody), you must also negate the verb itself with nie. While English says nobody told anyone, Polish literally says nobody to nobody did not tell (nikt nikomu nie mówił).
Why is the relative pronoun in the form o którym?
The preposition o (about) dictates the case of the relative pronoun. Because the verb phrase is mówić o (to talk about), which takes the locative case, the masculine inanimate noun zakątek requires the locative form of który, resulting in o którym.
Why is mówił imperfective if the act of finding (znaleźliśmy) is a completed perfective action?
The act of finding was a single, completed event. However, the not-telling (nie mówił) describes a continuous background state in the past leading up to that discovery. Negative statements about things that simply did not happen over a general, undefined period of time typically use the imperfective aspect.
