Why do we use a before maggio and giugno instead of the Italian word in?
Actually, you can use either! In Italian, it is correct to use both a and in before months of the year. Saying in maggio means exactly the same thing as a maggio, though a is very common in everyday speech.
Why aren't the words for May (maggio) and June (giugno) capitalized here?
Unlike in English, months of the year and days of the week are not capitalized in Italian. You only capitalize them if they are the very first word in a sentence.
Why do we use per after partiamo?
The verb partire (to leave) is generally followed by the preposition per (for) when you are naming the destination you are traveling to. Think of it as saying "we leave for France" rather than "we leave to France."
Why is there an article (la) before Francia?
In Italian, names of countries usually require a definite article like il, la, or l'. Because Francia is a feminine noun, we use la. You might remember that this article disappears when using the preposition in (like in Francia), but with per, the article must stay.
