Questions & Answers about Mă uit la hartă, iar Ana se uită la ea.
Romanian often leaves out subject pronouns when the verb ending already makes the subject clear.
So Mă uit already means I look / I am looking. You could say Eu mă uit, but eu is usually only added for emphasis, contrast, or clarity.
- Mă uit. = I’m looking.
- Eu mă uit, nu Ana. = I’m looking, not Ana.
The verb is a se uita, which is a reflexive verb. In Romanian, this verb normally comes with a reflexive pronoun:
- mă = reflexive form for I
- se = reflexive form for he/she
So:
- Mă uit = I look / I’m looking
- Ana se uită = Ana looks / Ana is looking
Even though English does not say I look myself at..., Romanian still uses the reflexive structure here. It is simply how this verb works.
