Questions & Answers about Trovo un appunto all’interno del taccuino.
Why is it un appunto and not uno appunto?
In Italian the indefinite article un is used before masculine nouns that start with a vowel or most consonants. Uno appears only before masculine nouns beginning with s + consonant (stato), z (zaino), ps, pn, gn, x. Since appunto begins with a vowel, you must use un.
What exactly does appunto mean, and how is it different from nota?
Both appunto and nota can mean “note,” but:
- appunto often implies a quick memo, jotting down an idea or reminder.
- nota is more general and can refer to a written remark, a side note, or even an annotation in a text.
In everyday speech appunto sounds more informal/diary-like.
Why is there no preposition before un appunto after trovo? Shouldn’t it be trovo su un appunto or something?
Trovare is a transitive verb here, so it takes a direct object without any preposition: you simply trovi qualcosa. Adding su would change the meaning (it’d become “I find something on a note”).
What does mean exactly? Can I use or instead?
