Ces dossiers sont urgents. Transférez-les-nous !

Questions & Answers about Ces dossiers sont urgents. Transférez-les-nous !

Why is the order -les-nous instead of -nous-les?
In affirmative commands, pronouns attach to the end of the verb. When using double pronouns in this structure, the direct object (le, la, or les) always comes before the indirect object (like moi, lui, nous, or leur). Since les means "them" and nous means "to us", it has to be Transférez-les-nous.
Why are there two hyphens in Transférez-les-nous?
Whenever you give an affirmative command (telling someone to do something), the object pronouns move to the right side of the verb. In French, you must link the verb and all attached pronouns together with hyphens.
How do I know which pronoun is the direct object and which is the indirect object here?
The direct object is the thing being acted upon directly. Here, the action is transferring, and the things being transferred are the files (les). The indirect object answers "to whom" or "for whom" the action is done. You are transferring the files to us (nous).
Is there a liaison between sont and urgents?
Yes. Since sont ends in a consonant and urgents starts with a vowel, you make a strong liaison. You will hear the "t" from sont connect to the start of urgents. The "s" at the very end of urgents, however, stays silent.
Why is it Ces dossiers and not Ce dossiers?
Ces is the plural demonstrative adjective, meaning "these" or "those". It is used for both masculine and feminine plural nouns. Because dossiers is plural, you must use ces instead of the singular forms ce, cet, or cette.
