Est-ce qu'on fait une petite promenade ?

From Lesson 66:Informal 'we' (on)·French

Questions & Answers about Est-ce qu'on fait une petite promenade ?

Why does on mean "we" here, but the verb fait is in the "he/she" form?
The pronoun on is traditionally translated as "one" (as in "one does something"), which is why it takes the singular il or elle verb form. However, in everyday spoken French, on is almost always used to mean "we". Even though the meaning is plural, the grammar stays singular!
Why is it written as qu'on instead of que on?
When que is followed by a word starting with a vowel, like on, the e is dropped and replaced with an apostrophe. This makes the pronunciation smoother. You will see the combination qu'on very often in questions!
The English translation says "taking a walk", but doesn't fait mean "make" or "do"?
Yes! In French, you don't "take" a walk, you "make" or "do" a walk. The fixed phrase is faire une promenade. It is very common for French and English to use entirely different verbs for everyday activities.
Why does petite come before promenade? Don't French adjectives usually come after the noun?
Most French adjectives do come after the noun. However, a small group of common adjectives go before it. These usually describe Beauty, Age, Number, Goodness, or Size (sometimes taught as the BANGS rule). Because petite (small/short) describes size, it must go in front of the noun.
