Questions & Answers about نه آن فیلسوف و نه این دانشمند تناقض را استنباط کرد.
Why is the verb استنباط کرد positive when the English translation says "Neither... nor..."?
The Farsi structure نه ... و نه ... (neither... nor...) already contains the negative meaning. In standard and formal Farsi, the verb accompanying it usually remains affirmative, which is why we see استنباط کرد instead of a negative form.
Since there are two people mentioned (the philosopher and the scientist), why is the verb singular (کرد) instead of plural (کردند)?
When singular subjects are joined by نه ... و نه ... (neither... nor...), the verb usually takes the singular form to agree with the closest subject. Since دانشمند (scientist) is singular, the verb is also singular.
Why do we need the word را after تناقض?
را is the definite direct object marker. The verb استنباط کرد (deduced) is acting directly on تناقض (contradiction). Because the sentence refers to a specific, known contradiction ("the contradiction"), را is required.
What kind of verb is استنباط کرد and how does it conjugate?
It is a compound verb made from the noun استنباط (deduction/inference) and the light verb کردن (to do). Only the light verb changes for tense and person. For example, if you wanted to say "deduces" in the present tense, it would become استنباط میکند.
