Questions & Answers about به دلیل گرانی، ما مجبور هستیم که ماشین قدیمی را تعمیر کنیم.

How is the word گرانی (gerâni) formed, and what does it literally mean?
The word گرانی (gerâni) is an abstract noun created by adding the suffix ـی (-i) to the adjective گران (gerân), which means "expensive." While it literally translates to "expensiveness," it is the standard Farsi term for "high prices" or the general concept of "inflation."
Why do we use the word که (ke) after مجبور هستیم (majbur hastim)?
The phrase مجبور هستیم که (majbur hastim ke) means "we are forced to" or "we have to." In Farsi, when expressing an obligation or desire to do another action, we often use که (that) as a bridge. It translates literally as "We are obliged that we repair..."
Why is the second verb, تعمیر کنیم (ta'mir konim), in the subjunctive mood?
It is in the subjunctive because it follows the phrase مجبور هستیم (we are forced/obliged). Verbs expressing necessity, obligation, or desire trigger the subjunctive mood for the action being described. Note that for the compound verb تعمیر کردن (to repair), the subjunctive prefix بـ is typically dropped from the کردن part.
Why does the object marker را (râ) come after قدیمی (qadimi) instead of right after ماشین (mâshin)?
When a specific direct object has an adjective attached to it, the object marker را (râ) must go at the very end of the entire noun phrase. It applies to the whole phrase ماشین قدیمی (the old car), not just the noun alone. Don't forget that an invisible ezafe vowel (-e) connects ماشین to قدیمی!
