شرکت غرامت پرداخت نمی‌کند، مگر اینکه سرقت را ثابت کنید.

Questions & Answers about شرکت غرامت پرداخت نمی‌کند، مگر اینکه سرقت را ثابت کنید.

Why do we use the subjunctive form ثابت کنید in the second half of the sentence?
The phrase مگر اینکه (unless) introduces a condition or a possible future situation, rather than a stated fact. In Farsi, conjunctions of condition and exception like مگر اینکه require the verb that follows them to be in the present subjunctive.
If ثابت کنید is subjunctive, why doesn't it start with the بـ (be-) prefix?
ثابت کنید comes from the compound verb ثابت کردن (to prove). For compound verbs formed with کردن, the subjunctive prefix بـ is very often dropped in modern Farsi. The verb still functions perfectly as a subjunctive without it.
Why does سرقت (theft) get the direct object marker را, but غرامت (compensation) does not?
The marker را is used for specific, definite direct objects. Here, "the theft" refers to a specific crime that needs proving, so سرقت takes را. On the other hand, "compensation" is being talked about in a general sense (the company doesn't pay compensation in general), so غرامت is indefinite and does not need را.
In پرداخت نمی‌کند, why is the negative prefix attached to the second word instead of the beginning?
پرداخت کردن (to pay) is a compound verb made of a noun (پرداخت) and a light verb (کردن). In Farsi, prefixes for negation like نـ (ne-) or tense markers like می‌ (mi-) are always attached to the verbal part (here, کند) rather than the non-verbal part.
