Questions & Answers about آیا میخواهی هر سال یک تقویم جدید بخری؟
Why is the noun after هر (har) in the singular form سال (sâl) instead of plural?
In Farsi, the word هر (every/each) is always followed by a singular noun. This is exactly like English, where we say "every year" instead of "every years." So, "every year" is simply هر سال (har sâl).
Why does the second verb, بخری (bekhari), start with بـ (be-) instead of میـ (mi-)?
Because of the verb میخواهی (you want) earlier in the sentence! When you link two verbs like "want to buy," the second verb must be in the subjunctive form. In Farsi, this usually means swapping the continuous میـ prefix for a بـ prefix.
Is there a hidden sound between تقویم (taqvim) and جدید (jadid)?
Yes, there is a hidden ezâfe vowel sound (-e) connecting them. To say "a new calendar," you pronounce it as yek taqvim-e jadid. This ezâfe links a noun to its adjective, but it is usually not written out in the Persian alphabet.
Can I leave out the word آیا (âyâ) at the beginning of the sentence?
Absolutely! آیا is a formal written word used to show a yes/no question is starting. In everyday spoken Farsi, people almost always drop it and just raise the pitch of their voice at the end of the sentence to show it is a question.
