Questions & Answers about ما پول نداریم و باید فردا پول دارو را پرداخت کنیم.
Why does the verb پرداخت کنیم (pardâkht konim) not have the بـ (be-) prefix if it's in the subjunctive mood?
پرداخت کردن (pardâkht kardan) is a compound verb, meaning "to pay". When forming the subjunctive for compound verbs with کردن (kardan), the بـ (be-) prefix is very often dropped. So instead of پرداخت بکنیم (pardâkht bekonim), it just becomes پرداخت کنیم (pardâkht konim) to match the "we" (ما) subject after the modal verb باید (bâyad).
Why does the object marker را (râ) come after دارو (dâru) instead of پول (pul)?
The specific thing being paid is the whole phrase "the money for the medicine". In Farsi, this is formed using the ezafe linking vowel as پولِ دارو (pul-e dâru), literally "money of medicine". The marker را (râ) always attaches to the very end of the entire noun phrase, which is why it sits after دارو.
The English translation says "pay for the medicine", but I don't see a word for "for" in the Farsi sentence. How does that work?
Farsi expresses this idea directly using the noun phrase پولِ دارو (pul-e dâru), which literally means "the money of the medicine". When combined with the verb پرداخت کردن (pardâkht kardan - to pay), the whole phrase naturally means "pay the medicine money", or in natural English, "pay for the medicine".
Why is "we don't have" translated as نداریم (nadârim) instead of نمیداریم (nemidârim)?
The verb "to have" is a major exception in Farsi. It never uses the می (mi-) prefix in the present tense. Because there is no می, to make it negative, you just add the negative prefix نـ (na-) directly to the base verb, giving us نداریم (nadârim).
