Questions & Answers about Mijn uitvoering heeft zes versnellingen, net als die van jou.
Why do we use die van jou here instead of dat van jou?
The demonstrative pronoun must match the gender of the noun it replaces. Here, it replaces uitvoering, which is a de-word (de uitvoering). Therefore, we use die. If it were replacing a het-word, like het model, you would use dat van jou.
Could I say net als de jouwe instead of net als die van jou?
Yes, de jouwe is grammatically correct and means the exact same thing. However, the construction die/dat van + [object pronoun] is extremely common in spoken Dutch and is often preferred over the slightly more formal-sounding independent possessive pronouns like de/het jouwe or de/het mijne.
The translation says uitvoering means 'trim'. What is the literal meaning of this word?
Uitvoering comes from the separable verb uitvoeren (to carry out or to execute). Literally, it means 'execution' or 'implementation'. In the context of cars, electronics, or software, it refers to the specific version, edition, or 'trim level'. You will also hear it used to describe a musical performance.
How does the word versnellingen (gears) relate to the word for fast (snel)?
