Questions & Answers about Deze map is gevaarlijk; je mag jouw wachtwoord daarin niet opslaan!
Why do we use daarin instead of saying in dat or in die for "in that"?
In Dutch, you generally cannot put a preposition (like in) directly before "it" or "that" to talk about things. Instead, you change "that" to daar (there) and attach the preposition to the end. So, "in that" becomes daarin (literally "there-in").
Why is opslaan at the very end of the sentence?
This is because of the modal verb mag (may/are allowed to). When you use a modal verb, it takes the normal verb position, and the main action verb (opslaan, meaning "to save") gets pushed to the very end of the sentence in its full infinitive form.
Is opslaan a separable verb? Why isn't it split up here?
Yes, opslaan is a separable verb made of op + slaan. However, it doesn't split here because it is sitting at the end of the sentence as a full infinitive. Separable verbs only split when they are the conjugated verb in the main part of the sentence, for example: Ik sla het op (I save it).
