Hij stuurt een vreemde link; wat moet ik daarmee doen?

Questions & Answers about Hij stuurt een vreemde link; wat moet ik daarmee doen?

Why do we use daarmee here instead of saying met dat?
In Dutch, you generally cannot combine a preposition (like met) with a pronoun referring to a thing (like dat or het). Instead, dat turns into daar- and attaches to the preposition. So, the concept of 'with that' becomes daarmee (literally 'therewith').
I see that daarmee means 'with that', but why does it use mee instead of met?
When the preposition met (with) is combined into a pronominal adverb with words like daar, hier, or waar, it changes its spelling and pronunciation to -mee. This is a special exception for this specific preposition, which is why you get daarmee (with that), hiermee (with this), and waarmee (with what).
Why is doen placed at the very end of the second clause?
Because the second part of the sentence uses the modal verb moeten (must/have to). In Dutch, when you have a modal verb, it takes the standard conjugated position right after the question word wat, and the main action verb (doen) gets pushed to the very end of the clause.
Why does vreemd get an extra -e to become een vreemde link?
The internet term link is a de-word (de link). When you use an adjective before a de-word, it almost always gets an -e at the end, even when it comes after the indefinite article een. You only drop the -e if it is a het-word following een.
