Questions & Answers about Heb jij die nieuwe serie al gezien?
Why is the adverb al placed right before gezien?
In Dutch, short adverbs of time and frequency like al (already) usually come after a specific direct object. Since die nieuwe serie is a specific object, al goes after it, resting just before the past participle gezien at the end of the sentence.
Would I put frequency adverbs like vaak or nooit in the exact same spot?
Yes! If you wanted to ask if someone has never seen the series, nooit (never) would go in the exact same place: Heb jij die nieuwe serie nooit gezien? They follow the same placement rules as al.
Why does nieuw get an -e added to it here?
The word serie is a de-word (de serie). When an adjective comes before a noun and follows a word like de, het, deze, or die, it almost always gets an -e at the end, becoming nieuwe.
Could I use je instead of jij in this sentence?
Absolutely. Jij is just the stressed version of je. You use jij here if you want to put a little extra emphasis on "you" (for example, if you know everyone else has seen it, and you are specifically asking this one person).
