Questions & Answers about In september en oktober regent het veel.
Why aren't september and oktober capitalized?
Unlike in English, months of the year are not capitalized in Dutch unless they are the very first word of a sentence.
Why is it regent het instead of het regent?
This is because of the Dutch word order rule called inversion. In a normal sentence, the verb must be the second idea. Since the time phrase In september en oktober takes up the first spot, the verb regent must come exactly second, pushing the subject het to the third spot.
Do you always use in for months in Dutch?
Yes! When you want to say that something happens in a specific month, you use the preposition in before the month, exactly as you do in English.
Does regent mean both rains and is raining?
Yes. Dutch doesn't use a continuous form like English does. You just use the simple present tense of the verb regenen (to rain). So, depending on the context, het regent can translate to it rains or it is raining.
