Freír: Full Conjugation | Spanish (Latin America) Grammar

Freír means "to fry." Like reír, it is an e→i stem-changing verb whose short stem requires written accents to break vowel hiatus. It also has one of the few dual past participles in Spanish: freído (regular) and frito (irregular). Both are accepted, but frito is far more common, especially as an adjective ("fried").

Use frito in almost every real-life situation: as an adjective (pollo frito, pescado frito) and with haber in perfect tenses (he frito el huevo). Reserve freído for very formal writing — most native speakers never use it.
