How do we build izliyor muydu to mean was she watching?
It combines the present continuous -iyor with the past tense question particle muydu. First, the verb izlemek (to watch) drops its final -e and adds -iyor to become izliyor. Then, we add the question word mu, a buffer -y-, and the past suffix -du.
Why is the question particle muydu instead of miydi or mıydı?
The question particle follows the vowel harmony of the word right before it. Because the continuous suffix -iyor always ends with the vowel o, the question particle will always be mu. Adding the past tense always makes it muydu for this specific grammar pattern, no matter what the original verb was!
The translation says your older sister, but the word senin is missing. Why is that?
In Turkish, the possessive suffix on the noun is usually enough to show who it belongs to. In ablan, the -n attached to abla means your. You can say senin ablan, but native speakers usually drop senin unless they want to add emphasis.
Why is the word order yeni bir dizi rather than bir yeni dizi?
When describing a noun with both an adjective (like yeni, meaning new) and the indefinite article bir (a/an), the adjective comes first in Turkish. So a new series is ordered as new a series (yeni bir dizi).
