Why do we use การที่ here instead of just การ?

This is a very long subject! How do I know where the การที่ clause ends and the main sentence begins?
You have to look for the main verb of the overall sentence. The การที่ clause contains its own verb (แยกแยะ - to separate) and its own negative ending (ไม่ ได้ - cannot). Right after that, we hit เป็น (to be). That is the main verb of the sentence, telling us what 'the fact that...' actually is (a big problem).
What is the difference between แยกแยะ and just แยก?
แยก generally means to physically separate or divide things. แยกแยะ is more abstract; it means to distinguish, differentiate, or categorize conceptually. Since we are talking about abstract issues (เรื่อง), แยกแยะ is the most natural word for mentally separating work from private life.
Why repeat the word เรื่อง (matter/story) in เรื่อง ส่วนตัว กับ เรื่อง งาน?
While people might understand you if you drop the second เรื่อง, repeating the noun is much more natural and balanced in Thai. It cleanly structures the two parallel concepts: 'the matter of personal (life)' and 'the matter of work'.
