Questions & Answers about Este dibujo es bonito.
Why is the word for "this" Este and not Esto?
Why does bonito end in -o?
Adjectives in Spanish must match the gender of the noun they describe. Because dibujo is a masculine noun, the adjective bonito (pretty) stays in its masculine form ending in -o. If you were describing a feminine noun like casa (house), you would say Esta casa es bonita.
Why do we use es instead of está to mean "is"?
If I wanted to say "These drawings are pretty," how would the sentence change?
It would become Estos dibujos son bonitos. Notice that the plural form of este is estos (not "estes"). The verb changes to son (are), and the adjective bonito also gets an -s to match the plural noun.
