Questions & Answers about ¿Cuál es tu número de teléfono?
Why does the sentence use Cuál (which) instead of Qué (what)?
In English, we say "What is your phone number?". But in Spanish, when you are asking to identify something specific out of many possibilities (like a phone number, an address, or a name), you use cuál next to the verb es. If you used qué here, ¿Qué es tu número de teléfono? would sound like you are asking for a dictionary definition of what a phone number is!
Why is there no accent mark on tu?
The word tu without an accent mark means "your". When it has an accent mark (tú), it means the person "you". Since you are saying "your number", you use the version without the accent mark.
Why is it número de teléfono instead of just teléfono número?
How do I reply to this question using the larger numbers I am learning?
You can start your reply with Mi número es... (My number is...). In Latin America, people often group phone numbers into pairs, which is a great way to practice the numbers from 30 to 100! For example, a number ending in 55-42-87 is often read in pairs as cincuenta y cinco, cuarenta y dos, ochenta y siete.
